Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Date"

Rolex is a name that everyone who is sentient knows. Their quality is legendary and their watches hold their value like a skinflint hangs onto a silver dollar. Knowing that, it becomes of prime importance when selecting a vintage Rolex to take a close look at condition. If you would like to see the pinnacle of great condition, for a watch that is 38 years old, then take a gander at this beauty.

This is a gentleman's "Oyster Perpetual Date" model that is exceedingly handsome! We have never had a nicer 14K solid gold Rolex "Date"....period! This watch is circa 1980 and is just plain beautiful in its simplicity. The wonderful gold dial, the gold chapter markers, gold case, and gold "Jubilee" band all add up to more than the parts. Rolex really hit a home run with this watch. This is the type of watch that has great quality built in, and a subtlety that gives a very classy appearance. It has a 27 jewel, automatic movement that is a virtual trouble-free performer. The photos just cannot do this watch justice. Can you tell that I love this watch? The dial has the classic Rolex crown and all of the applied hour markers in a beautiful high polish gold that is contrasted against the gold, matte-finish dial.

The Rolex name is under the 12, followed by the marking "Oyster Perpetual" indicating that it is waterproof and automatic. Just above the 6 o'clock position is the mark "Superlative Chronometer " which is a quality indication, and beneath that the "Officially Certified" rating. The crown has the classic Rolex crown logo which screws down smooth and tight to the case. The case lugs and band have a bushed, matte finish which is contrasted by the high polish, fluted bezel and high polish band middle and case sides. The case measures 34mm in diameter, not including the crown, by 44mm from lug tip to lug tip (for reference an American Quarter measures 26mm in diameter), by 12mm thick including the crystal. It also has the "Cyclops" magnifier over the date window and comes with its original box and papers.

I'll be amazed if we have this watch long. It is in the best condition and looks fabulous on the wrist. Running like new and fully warrantied for a year. Don't miss it!
