Bulova "Spaceview Yellow Dot" Accutron

The Bulova "Accutron" was first introduced in the 1960s when we were deeply motivated by our space program. The Bulova engineers were spot-on when they created this very accurate, gentleman's wristwatch, the Bulova "Accutron Spaceview". If the quartz movement hadn't been invented a few years later, we'd still all be wearing these electronic watches because it was the most accurate watch a person could own. This "Spaceview", made in 1962, has the look of the space age. The story is told that the American government wanted to keep this technology out of the hands of the Russians, so they asked Bulova to keep it a secret a little longer since we were using this very accurate timekeeper in our space program.

When you take a look at the informational pamphlet that Bulova put out to introduce this new idea (to jewelers and watchmakers) it has a very avant-garde/cutting-edge look (for its day). In the pamphlet, it is explained that the seconds are parsed into very discrete segments by the vibration of a small tuning fork at the heart of the movement. Bulova advertised it as, "The Watch That Hums"! The general public was so taken with the idea, they wanted to see how it worked and Bulova obliged. They had store displays that showed the interior of the watch exposed and this caused people to want a watch on their wrist that had the same look. As a result the "Spaceview" was born! Like all Accutron's, this gentleman's "Spaceview" is back-set at the rear of the stainless steel case, which measures 36mm in diameter by 39mm lug to lug, by 13mm thick. What's special about this one is the yellow markers and hands. In the trade, it is designated as the "Yellow Dot Spaceview". It is in fantastic condition and humming just the way it did back in 1962. It could be humming on your wrist! We warranty all of our watches for one year for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence.
