Bulova "Spaceview Yellow Dot" Accutron

The Bulova "Accutron" was first introduced in the 1960s when we were deeply motivated by our space program. The Bulova engineers were spot-on when they created this very accurate, gentleman's wristwatch, the Bulova "Accutron Spaceview". If the quartz movement hadn't been invented a few years later, we'd still all be wearing these electronic watches because it was the most accurate watch a person could own. This "Spaceview", made in 1962, has the look of the space age. The story is told that the American government wanted to keep this technology out of the hands of the Russians, so they asked Bulova to keep it a secret a little longer since we were using this very accurate timekeeper in our space program.

When you take a look at the informational pamphlet that Bulova put out to introduce this new idea (to jewelers and watchmakers) it has a very avant-garde/cutting-edge look (for its day). In the pamphlet, it is explained that the seconds are parsed into very discrete segments by the vibration of a small tuning fork at the heart of the movement. Bulova advertised it as, "The Watch That Hums"! The general public was so taken with the idea, they wanted to see how it worked and Bulova obliged. They had store displays that showed the interior of the watch exposed and this caused people to want a watch on their wrist that had the same look. As a result the "Spaceview" was born! Like all Accutron's, this gentleman's "Spaceview" is back-set at the rear of the stainless steel case, which measures 36mm in diameter by 39mm lug to lug, by 13mm thick. What's special about this one is the yellow markers and hands. In the trade, it is designated as the "Yellow Dot Spaceview". It is in fantastic condition and humming just the way it did back in 1962. It could be humming on your wrist! We warranty all of our watches for one year for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence.

Bulova "Accutron Astronaut Mark II"

There is no room for "monkeying around" with this watch. It is a very useful tool watch that bears the name "Astronaut Mark II". It has a Two Time Zone display where your home time is read on a rotating red disc at the 6 o'clock position and the time at your particular position around the world is read by the conventional hands at the dial center. Not only do you know what time it is, but there is also a date window at the 12 o'clock position and a very prominent red sweep second hand that is centrally located. The case is stainless steel for wearing longevity and it measures 34mm in width, by 40mm lug to lug, by 12mm thick (including the crystal) and it takes an 18mm band. What makes it even more dramatic is the red and black contrast of the dial, the silver markers, and the Red Date! The "Accutron" is the world's first "Tuning Fork" watch, the most accurate watch of its day.
The story is told that in the 1960s the American government wanted to keep this timing technology out of the hands of the Russians. So, they asked Bulova to keep it a secret a little longer since we were using this very accurate timekeeper in our space program. When you take a look at the informational pamphlet that Bulova put out to introduce this new idea to jewelers and watchmakers, it has a very space age, cutting edge look (for the day). In the pamphlet it is explained that the seconds are parsed into very discrete segments by the vibrations of a small tuning fork at the heart of the movement. Bulova advertised it as the "watch that hums"! The general public was very much into innovative and stylish watches and Bulova made this very interesting "Astronaut" for space traveling men, women, & monkeys to strap on their wrists.

Bulova "Space View" Accutron

This a a slightly over-sized Cushion Case "Space View" Bulova Accutron! The stainless steel case measures 40mm lug to lug by 36mm wide. It makes a real statement on the wrist. Made in 1970 it has the look of the space age. The story is told that the American Government wanted to keep this technology out of the hands of the Russians so they asked Bulova to keep it a secret a little longer since we were using this very accurate timekeeper in our space program. When you take a look at the informational pamphlet that Bulova put out to introduce this new idea to jewelers and watchmakers it has a very avant garde curring edge look (for the day). In the pamphlet it is explained that the seconds are parsed into very discrete segments by the vibrations of a small tuning fork at the heart of the movement. Bulova advertised it as the "watch that hums"! The general public was so taken with the idea they wanted to see how it worked and Bulova obliged. They had store displays that showed the interior of the watch exposed and this caused people to want a watch on their wrist that had the same look. The "Spaceview" was born! Like all Accutron's this one is back-set, at the rear of the stainless steel case. What's special about this one is the larger size fo this "cushion" case. It is in fantastic condition and humming just the way it did back in 1970. It could be humming on your wrist! We warranty all of our watches for one year for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence.
