Gruen Precision Drivers Watch
- Direct View: looks a man in the eye, without effort, without even a twist of the wrist!
- Snug, perfect fit: can’t slip, can’t slide!
- Pocket-watch accuracy, because both case and movement are curved to fit the side of the wrist!
- Maximum protection against damage; occupies the one position on a man’s wrist that is least liable to be bumped.
- Thoroughly practical; its attention-value is obvious, but its every feature is, above all, practical!
This reads like Don Draper wrote it, but that was back in the day. Today, Gruen would probably be surprised to learn that even women are wearing their fine vintage timepieces.
Its been quite a while since we here at Father Time Antiques have had the pleasure to own one of these scarce watches. They were called “Driver’s Watches” because the idea was that you could glance at the side of your wrist while driving without having to rotate your grip on the steering wheel. A bit kin to texting while driving, hence the name. Make sure you take a look at the "Zoom-In" photos to get a glimpse at the high, wrist hugging, curve of the case. This excellent example, in a yellow gold filled case measures 20mm wide by 35mm from lug end to lug end. It is a seventeen jewel, which is a clean as a whistle, made circa 1938 and is one of the nicest ones in this configuration we have ever had. The dial has a nice, all original patina, and the movement is running just the way it did when new. Our watchmakers having lovingly restored it so that it can live in your family for another 77 years. Remember all of our timepieces come with our famous one year warranty for parts and labor so that you may buy with confidence. We have only one so don't miss it!
