Breitling "Navitimer"

The Breitling "Navitimer" is a legendary "Tool Watch" by which many other aviator's watches are measured. It is one of the most desirable pilot's watches one can aspire to. Way back in 1884 Leon Breitling came to St. Imier, Switzerland (and later to La Chaux-de-Fonds) in a quest to create his very first Chronograph and it was in this same year that Breitling was founded. This 1973 "Navitimer" gets its slide-rule bezel from the earlier (1942) "Chronomat". Breitling wanted to capitalized on this highly practical bezel and, in 1952, the "Navi" was born. This slide rule bezel was used to calculate complicated operations without the use of any other tool. This watch was also used by the United States Air Force to great advantage. Breitling's place in horology was secure: a brand dedicated to pilots. Today, pilot and celebrity, John Travolta is an ambassador for the brand and he uses his Breitling aboard his Boeing 707 and/or his Bombardier Challenger 601.

There have been several iterations of the watch, but this one is particularly pleasing, and it has the addition of a date window at the 4:30 position. The stainless steel case is in fantastic condition, as is the 17 jewel movement. Make sure you look at the "Zoom-In" photos and you will see its as clean as a whistle! Our head watchmaker has it running and performing all of its functions just like it did back in 1973, when it was new. The size of the "Navitimer" (42mm in diameter without the crown) puts it right in step with today's larger sizes and the black dial gives it a distinct look that just can't be beat. It has a three-body, polished and brushed, revolving, reeded, and graduated steel bezel, lapidated lugs, with a snap-on.case back. The bi-color black and guilloché matte silvered dial with luminous baton indexes and Arabic numerals. It has auxiliary dials for the seconds, 12-hour and 30-minute registers, outer slide-rule, and aperture for the date. Luminous white baton.hands complete the look. It is a Cal. 7806, rhodium plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber.self-compensating flat balance spring..Dial, case, and movement signed. Diam. 42 mm. Thickness 14 mm. This one still has its Breitling Logo buckle to complete the look.
